Justin Byrne
Justin recently came to the bar after more than 20 years experience as a solicitor specialising in taxation and revenue law within the context of commercial transactions. He also has experience with taxation litigation. He has chambers in both Sydney and Brisbane.
Justin has acted for clients of all sizes from large corporations and government departments to high net wealth individuals. As well as his considerable front end tax advice experience in all areas of Federal and State taxation laws, he has been involved with tax related cases in the AAT, Federal Court, High Court of Australia and Supreme Court of Queensland.
For many years Justin has actively contributed to Australian tax policy. He is a Chartered Tax Adviser with the Taxation Institute of Australia and is a regular presenter at its events. He is also the current chair of the Law Council of Australia’s Business Law Section (taxation) committee in Queensland, where he regularly makes submissions to Treasury and the ATO on tax related issues.
Justin also has a Masters of Taxation law. Prior to him coming to the bar he was a partner of a large Queensland law firm, heading up its taxation and revenue division. He has also worked at Blake Dawson Waldron (now Ashurst) (Sydney – tax) and Minter Ellison (Brisbane – tax). Justin also has accounting qualifications through a Bachelor of Commerce and has worked at Grant Thornton and Crowe Horwarth as a tax consultant and director.
Justin has been recognised in Doyle’s Guide and Best Lawyers as a recommended tax adviser in Queensland in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
